Slow Cooker Pork Tacos

From the encouragement of this little lady, I decided to share with you today one of my favorite & EASIEST recipes. Slow Cooker Shredded Pork Tacos.

2 cloves garlic, unpeeled
4 to 5 chipotles in adobo sauce (less if you are not into spicy)
1/2 medium white onion, roughly chopped
1.5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt
1 teaspoons dried oregano, preferably Mexican
1 3/4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
2-3 large tomatoes, chopped or 1/2 pint cherry tomatoes
2 pounds boneless pork roast (untrimmed)
Freshly ground pepper
1 bay leaves
1/2 cinnamon stick
Corn tortillas, warmed, for serving
Assorted taco toppings, for garnish (chopped radish, feta, cilantro, & avocado are what I like to use)

Dump all the ingredients (sans tortillas & toppings) into a crockpot & cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. When done, shred pork (it should pull apart VERY easily). Warm tortillas according to package directions or over a gas burner, assemble tacos & top with your favorite toppings!

and for a little variation....

Shredded Pork Quesadillas!

Take leftover shredded pork & create a yummy quesadilla with whole wheat tortillas, spinach, tomato, Monterrey jack + feta cheeses & mushroom. Easy Peasy.

It's amazing how quickly time is passing. Little man is about the size of an ear of corn now & will be gaining about 6 oz. a week from here on out! He is constantly doing a little dance in my belly & has even showed off his dance moves for friends & family now.

Burlap Bedskirt + Ruffled Duvet Cover {a preview}

On Wednesday, I decided it was time to make a new bedskirt--so although this DIY did in fact happen on a Wednesday, I am just now getting around to posting it. I blame it on the bad lighting on Wednesday--decent pictures would have been hard to take.

Anyway, this is about the easiest DIY there is--very little explaination needed.

I needed a new bedskirt to go with the duvet cover that I made from a tutorial I found here.

I didn't want to spend a lot of time or money on it--I've got a baby nursery to decorate for heaven's sake! So I got the brilliant idea that I would turn to my favorite textile on God's green earth: burlap.

For less than $12 I got the 3.5 yards of burlap it would take to make a bedskirt for our bed. I cut the burlap in half, lengthwise, giving it a width of 3.5 yards & a height of 22". Now you could, fold, iron & hem up the burlap to make a certain statement, and with most fabrics you'd just have to give it that tailored look anyway, but with burlap, you can also just cut it & leave as is with the natural fraying--which I think gives a lovely raw look. So of course, I just left the burlap as is, unhemmed & proceeded to pull out the staple gun.

I first cut out two small pieces of burlap for each corner of the bed frame & stapled them neatly to each corner, stapling down the top as well as the sides. I then cut out pieces to fit the length of both sides of the bed & the foot of the bed. Keeping in mind, that the height of the burlap remained the same, at 22". I pinned each individual strip to it's cooresponding side, then staple gunned away, this time only stapling at the top of the frame.

3 sides later, and you are done. Easy as pie.

Can you tell what my next project will be? PILLOWS. I am in desperate need of them.

Oh & I am hoping to add a project to my honey's to-do list: the headboard. I love my framed map, but it's only a place holder right now for the fantastic headboard I know my hubby will create-he's talented like that!

Twice Baked Sweet Potato {Mexican Style}

This is a yummy little dish I came up with the other day--if you've never tried sweet potatoes in combination with Mexican food, you're missing out. It's delish.

Here's the recipe:

Preheat oven to 400* F. Wash sweet potatoe & coat in olive oil. Bake at 400* for 1 hour.

In the meantime gather these ingredients:

1/4 cup black beans, cooked
1/4 cup grape tomatoes, halved
3TBSP reduced-fat sour cream
1/2 tsp. cumin
2 TBSP monterrey jack cheese, shredded
salt & pepper to taste

When potato is baked, remove from oven & cut in half, lengthwise. Scoop the potato filling out of shell, gently without messing up the shell. In a bowl, combine potato filling, sour cream, cumin, black beans, tomatoes, salt & pepper. Put the filling back into each shell & top with cheese. Bake at 400* for 15-20 minutes.

DIY Wednesday {Portable Changing Pad}

As I get ready for baby boy Carter to arrive, I constantly have a running list in my head of things I want to make. A changing pad to carry in my diaper bag (also an item on that list to be done) was one of the items I wanted to make. I knew I could find much cuter fabric to use than most of what you'll find in stores, plus I really wanted to test out iron-on vinyl :)

Take a look at how it turned out...

I used herringbone & argyle printed fabrics, with both sides covered in vinyl, making each side easy to wipe down & waterproof. I also added a magnetic snap so I could fold the changing pad up in one of two ways & snap it shut!

LOVE the combo of these two prints together

And option number 2 for folding the pad down & closing it shut!

I had a lot of fun with this, LOVED using vinyl & really loved that the changing pad is boyish but not cartoony. It will suit little man's tastes as well as mine, I do believe.

I suppose it could be my husband, or maybe this little boy cooking in my belly, that has me thinking about superheros. The connection between men & their superheros is something I'll never understand, but that I do love.

the 20 week bump

Baby Boy C is a growing! My belly has really started to pooch out more in the past couple of weeks. AND for the past three weeks I have been feeling the little man kick & squirm. He is quite the mover & shaker!

It was fun to have all these changes occur over the Christmas season & to have my family experience some pregnancy milestones with me.

I also had an amazing opportunity to have an ultrasound done by the woman who sonogrammed me in my mom's tummy when I was just a little dot in the womb. She is a great friend to our family & was the one who revealed to us that we are having a boy!

This sonogram was also such a gift, because Ben was not going to be able to be present for it, but through her amazing connections, God's grace & the wonderful world of technology, we were able to Skype him into the ultrasound. He got to see our little boy as though he were actually in the room! God's provisions are good :)

Custom Bridesmaid Clutches

I was SO elated to see these pictures today of a sweet friend's wedding, showing off her My Little Sunshine swag! Each bridesmaid had a custom burlap & lace clutch with an different interior fabrics to fit each of their cute personalities!

I do a lot of bridesmaid orders, but this was probably my favorite. And what a cute photo op! Love it!

Our Pregnancy Story

I know, it's not much of a bump yet, but give us a little time...it'll get there!

I wanted to share a little bit (or maybe a lot) of our pregnancy story today. Each & every person has a unique story, written by God. For some, pregnancy comes as a surprise, for others, they hope expectantly each month for those two pink lines & for some, you've been trying so long--you've just given up even buying a stick each month.

Well, that last one was me. Ben & I were trying almost 1.5 years before God chose to make my womb fruitful. It was definitely a roller coaster trip of emotions--hopefulness, expectancy, disappointment, sadness, jealousy, hopefulness again, but each month seemed to end with disappointment. I knew in my heart, that the Lord had our future & the future of our children in his hands, but I still couldn't help feeling disappointed. I wanted Him to work on my timeline.

I think it was about 6-8 months into our journey of trying to get pregnant, that I finally even voiced to a few people that we were trying to have children. I guess, I didn't want to get people all excited & have them waiting for me to share with them the good news, when I wasn't sure if we were even going to be able to get pregnant. When I finally did share with those few people, that yes, we were trying, but also that we were struggling, it was such a relief. Ben & I felt that the burden was no longer solely resting on our shoulders, but that we had a little army of warriors carrying it with us, and praying for us.

Slowly, Ben & I were able to open up & share with more people about our difficulty getting pregnant & some of that disappointment & sadness was healed by encouragement & prayers from those dear to us.

Once, we finally reached the year mark, we were able to start seeing the doctor, to explore the world of infertility. A little scary, but we were ready to find out what or if there was anything wrong. I think one of the hardest parts of that whole year beforehand, was just the unknown. It's easy to fear what we do not know. And I know that I definitely fell into that trap more than once. I was actually looking forward to these tests in a way, as they might lead us to some answers. All the while, I knew in my heart, that infertility or not, God could work a miracle in my body whenever & however he wanted--despite what any testing may prove.

The fertility testing took a few months to get to the part where we actually were having some testing done. I had blood work done here & there to test for different signs of infertility. About a month or so later, I had results from some of the blood work that showed I probably didn't ovulate. However, they still had more tests to run before we explored that road more.

In one test, they actually told me that I did not ovulate that month...so I thought to myself, well, at least I know not to get my hopes up this month about being pregnant!

But some strange things happened that month, that were actually making it difficult for me to remember what the doctor had said. My mom, who had been praying for our infertility for a very long time, was praying for us one day & just uncontrollably, spouted out the words, "Lord, protect those babies!" (She really wanted twins.)...She told me the story and I thought.....that's weird....what if....no, impossible.

Then, my next door neighbor, shared with me a dream she had, where I was pregnant. I joked with her and said, "maybe you're prophetic" and she looked at me seriously, and said, "it wouldn't be the first time". Again, I thought....what if, maybe? And then I shook it out of my head.

And of course, just like the Lord, I felt a small tugging on my heart all month long, that I was pregnant. He even gave me some scripture that I felt in my heart was for us & our baby, but I kept remembering the disappointment I had felt each time I had gotten to hopeful about being pregnant, and would always dismiss what I now know that He was placing on my heart.

On September 27th, I was scheduled for another round of tests, in which they required me to take a pregnancy test before hand because of the x-rays I would be exposed to. Since, I had been having all these crazy feelings all month & interesting encounters, I decided I would take one at home before I went to the doctor....just in case.

I took the test, and waited. and waited.

Finally, I got up the nerve to look at the test & squinted & did a double take because it looked as though there was a faint second line there. WHAT??!! What does that mean?? Is that a MAYBE you're pregnant? a YES? I was clueless. I ran down the stairs to Ben & just blurted out, "Ben, I think I'm pregnant."

"What do you mean, you think?" I showed him the stick & the questionable second line...we were both so hopeful, but didn't fully know what to make of it.

Good thing we had round two at the hospital, they would know.

So we did our thing, went to our appointment & took another pregnancy test while we waited to have the x-ray done. The nurse called our name & took us into her office & told us, "Well, we can't do your test today because it turns out, you're PREGNANT!"

You'd have thought we would have seen that coming, but really I think we were dumbstruck with awe, wonder, disbelief, & amazement. It was all so much. And to think, we would find out that we had naturally conceived on our way to an infertility test. Only God could orchestrate it in such a way!

So that's our little story, the story God wrote for us.

All I have to say is that His timing is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

This will be my first Christmas with my hubby that we have not decorated for Christmas. I didn't realize how much I'd miss all the holiday craftiness & decor! We are going to be spending the entire season elsewhere, and it just didn't make much sense to do the whole shebang, but oh how I will miss it so!

I decided to do a little Pinterest therapy, to sooth my soul today---I didn't want to feel like too much of a scrooge. So if I were decorating this year...here's some of what you might find lying around our house or hanging from the tree :)

a little baby bun!!

Our little cutie was about 9.5 weeks when this was taken & only a little over an inch! Little Buttercup is growing like a little weed in there at 13 weeks & is about the size of a peach now! Hard to believe!

Ben & I are beyond excited for this new little addition to make his/her debut into our little family sometime in late May. This little one is quite an answered prayer & is a miracle in the making.

Brace yourself for pictures, updates & stories :) It's just gonna happen.

DIY Wednesday {Bare Branch Tree Decor}

I've always loved bare branch trees in home decor. I was contemplating getting one to hang Christmas ornaments on, when I thought "shoot, I can make that!"

And so I did. Thankfully, fall actually exists in our neck of the woods, so leaves and branches are falling every which way in my back yard. I selected a few branchy branches that caught my eye, spray painted them off-white (with a touch of glitter over the white), and just had to find a vase or object to put them in.

So far, I've settled on this silver vase...we'll see if I end up changing it :) My branches just happened to lay out really nicely without the need for any stabilizer in the vase to hold them up. However, in the past I've used things like glass marbles, pepples or foam to stabilize things like this, so any of those should work, depending on the look you are going for.

I like my little branches, ornament-less & all...they might just end up being a year-round piece in our home :)

Spiced Chai Tea Latte

Apparently, I am on a recipe rampage lately. Hope you are enjoying experimenting with new things as much as I am :)

A few days ago, I went to the local coffee shop on a mission: to treat myself to a Chai Tea Latte. You can imagine my disappointment and the teeny ounce of despair I felt when I arrived only to find out it was the one drink they were out of that day. REALLY?? Well, this would not do. I needed that Spiced Chai.

I got home, found my friend, Google & started looking up Chai Latte recipes.

I never end up having exactly what a recipe calls for & well, there's just something in me that loves to tweak things, so off I went to make my own version of a Chai Tea Latte.

Here's what I used:

2 cups water

2 single serving bags of Chai Tea (black tea is also fine)

1/2 tsp. ginger

1 tsp. mulling spice mix (includes cloves, orange peel, cinnamon, coriander & allspice)

1/8 cup raw sugar (most recipes called for much more than this, but I found the latte to be perfectly sweet)

2 1/2 cups milk

And here's what you do:

In a saucepan, bring water, tea bags, ginger & spice mix to a boil. Let simmer for 5 minutes until well steeped. Add raw sugar, stirring until dissolved. Pour in the milk & heat until teeny tiny bubbles form.

Use a sieve to extract the mulling spices & tea bags from the Chai & pour yourself a nice warm mug of what I like to call, Christmas in Your Mouth.

Top with whipped cream & cinnamon. Heavenly.

Delicious Tomato Basil Soup

Tomato Basil Soup is one of my absolute favorite dishes to make when the weather starts getting chilly.

Yesterday was a chilly, rainy day--perfect for making this yummy soup!

Ingredients:

1 TBSP butter

2-3 cloves garlic

14 vine ripened tomatoes, cut in half

2 tsp oregano

1 Shallot, minced

2 TBSP fresh basil, chopped

1 tsp each. salt & pepper

2 1/2 cups organic vegetable broth (lower sodium)

1/4 cup heavy cream

squeeze of lemon juice

To Prepare:

Preheat oven to 425*. Place tomatoes, flesh side down on baking sheet, along with cloves of garlic.

Roast for 50 minutes, taking the garlic out after 30.

Heat butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic, shallots, oregano, basil, salt & pepper. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until garlic begins to turn brown & shallots are cooked through.

Add tomatoes & broth to the mixture & simmer, covered for 15 minutes.

Puree soup with either immersion blender or in batches with a regular blender until nice & smooth.

Pour in heavy cream & lemon juice. Season with additional salt or pepper if needed.

Cook up some yummy grilled cheese sandwiches to go along with the meal and you have one delightful meal.

Enjoy!

We have a LOT of kids in our neighborhood, which on Halloween translates to a TON of trick or treaters.

Three of our neighborhood couple friends & ourselves decided to spend the evening together, enjoying each other's company while passing out the loot. As the details of our little block party came together, well let's just say we got a little carried away.

Military people move a lot & tend to have a lot of boxes. What's a better use for old boxes than to make a little Halloween maze?

We were quite the neighborhood hit with the chillins ;)

It's good to see you again.

The Hubs, Bob & I have been gone for quite some time--about 10 days or so, for a little trip around Texas to see family and friends.

It was quite the whirlwind. But definitely full of fun & lots of sweet memories.

Really sweet ones, in fact...but more on those later.

While visiting the quaint little town of Blanco, Texas, Ben & I stumbled upon quite an interesting find.

One of the sets of True Grit. Who knew? Well, apparently my mom did.

Ben could not in good conscience leave the little town before visiting a little piece of one of his favorite films.

Fall Dish:: French Apple Tart

Beautiful, crisped apples on a warm buttery tart? Can you tell I'm in the fall mood?

I was craving a little something sweet (but not too sweet) with a fall flavor (other than pumpkin..no offense to pumpkin) and stumbled upon this recipe from the Barefoot Contessa...a few minor alterations (a little less butter & sugar, seriously--you'll never know the difference) and this dish was good to go!

For the pastry:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon raw sugar
9 tablespoons (~1 1/4 sticks) cold unsalted butter, diced
1/2 cup ice water

For the apples:

4 Granny Smith apples
1/4 cup raw sugar
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, small-diced
1/2 cup apricot jelly or warm sieved apricot jam (see note)
2 tablespoons Calvados, rum, or water

And in the Barefoot Contessa's words, here are the directions:

For the pastry, place the flour, salt, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the steel blade. Pulse for a few seconds to combine. Add the butter and pulse 10 to 12 times, until the butter is in small bits the size of peas. With the motor running, pour the ice water down the feed tube and pulse just until the dough starts to come together. Dump onto a floured board and knead quickly into a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.

Roll the dough slightly larger than 10x14 inches. Using a ruler and a small knife, trim the edges. Place the dough on the prepared sheet pan and refrigerate while you prepare the apples.

Peel the apples and cut them in half through the stem. Remove the stems and cores with a sharp knife and a melon baller. Slice the apples crosswise in 1/4-inch-thick slices. Place overlapping slices of apples diagonally down the middle of the tart and continue making diagonal rows on both sides of the first row until the pastry is covered with apple slices. (I tend not to use the apple ends in order to make the arrangement beautiful.) Sprinkle with the full 1/2 cup sugar and dot with the butter.

Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the pastry is browned and the edges of the apples start to brown. Rotate the pan once during cooking. If the pastry puffs up in one area, cut a little slit with a knife to let the air out. Don't worry! The apple juices will burn in the pan but the tart will be fine! When the tart's done, heat the apricot jelly together with the Calvados and brush the apples and the pastry completely with the jelly mixture. Loosen the tart with a metal spatula so it doesn't stick to the paper. Allow to cool and serve warm or at room temperature.

Pumpkin Patch + Friends

Pumpkin Patches are fun. Especially when friends are involved.

Last weekend we had some sweet friends in town for a little visit which consisted of campfires, s'mores, pumpkin picking, tractor riding & wii tournamenting. With an event list like that, it's pretty obvious- we had a great time!

Chicago Trip :: Day 2 & 3

Day 2 in Chicago, was spent mostly at Renegade Handmade, which I blogged about here.

On my third full day, Anna had to put on her big girl pants & go to work--so I went sight seeing & shopping!

I braved the city & the trains all by myself, and only got ~~lost~~ slightly disoriented a couple of times.

Chicago Trip :: Day 1

Visiting Chicago to see my friend Anna was one of the best uses of a four day weekend I've ever had!

Loved the city, loved spending time with Anna & loved getting to see things that she loved about the city.

Like a pro, I took the train from the airport to meet her at her office. I may have memorized the route before getting off the plane so I wouldn't look TOO out of place ;)

Subway train...a completely new experience for me. Fun, confusing & forget personal space.

Enjoyed snapping a few shots of some murals that I would pass by on my tour of the city.

Anna knows there is at least one thing that can always easily please me: Good coffee.

Metropolis Roasters & Coffee house...so good! I bought a pound so I am still enjoying their coffee at home :)

Another fantastic coffee shop. Yes, we went to two in one day. It was great.

You know it must be good coffee when the barista apologizes for his asymmetrical rosette. Yeesh.

Fall Wreath Tutorial :: DIY

Yay! Computer is back up & running, thus images can be uploaded & edited & posts can be made as to how to make this lovely fall wreath :)

With that said, let's do this thing!

//Supplies//

(all of which can be found super cheap at Walmart)

Scissors

Wreath Form (14")

Felt in 2 colors, 1/2 yard of primary color & 1/4 yard of secondary

1.5 yards Jute ribbon

Hot glue gun

For welcome pendant:

Jute string

Colorful cotton fabric

Printer

Small Clothesline Clips

//Step One//

Cut felt into long strips & wrap it around wreath form, covering completely. Glue felt down at the end of each strip.

//Step Two//

Wrap Jute around wreath to create the piece you will hang it with. I hot glued the jute to itself once wrapped around the wreath. Also, I used the full 1.5 yards because I hung wreath from the jute ribbon all the way over the door...in other words, the about 8" of the jute is seen on the inside of my door, it then wraps over the door frame, and the rest of the jute and the wreath hangs on the outside of my door. Make sense? I hope so!

//Step Three//

Cut a TON of little felt petals...I think I cut at least 200. This does not have to be an exact science, in my opinion, having slightly differing shapes of petals, with somewhat of a circular form, makes for a more structurally appealing wreath :)

//Step Four//

Pinch each petal in a fashion that you desire. I chose to fold each of mine...kind of like a taco. Pinch them however you choose, just try to be consistent! While pinching your felt, dab some hot glue onto the wreath form & arrange the petal on it. The first one may not hold its form, but as you press petal against petal, you will start to see a nice little pattern!

//Step Five//

Change it up! I used an accent color for about 1/5th of the wreath to bring a little something interesting to the wreath. Again, follow the same pattern of folding & gluing, just change up the color! Go the extra mile & fill in the inner & outer surface areas of the wreath with petals too! It really makes for a much fuller looking wreath. You can see the picture above that I still need to go back & do petals for the interior.

//Step Six//

Glue Jute string to the back of the wreath, from one end to the other. This will hold your "welcome" pendant.

//Step Seven//

Cut out an 8.5"x11" piece of fabric in the color of your choice.

Create a document with the word "welcome" in it...or whatever word you choose!

I used the font "Courier New" and put a space in between each letter of the word w e l c o m e.

Print document onto fabric on a normal grey scale setting---easy!

//Step Eight//

Cut out your little fabric pendant & clip to jute with mini clothesline pins.

Finally, take a step back & enjoy your handiwork!!

So, I was planning on this being a DIY Wednesday post, but my computer decided to crash this week, so I am left with instagram and the blogger app as my only means of posting. It just so happened that I was in Chicago on the same weekend as one of the best handmade craft shows around:: Renegade Handmade. Anna was such a GREAT hostess & indulged me & my handmade obsession by taking me to see the show in Wicker Park. Oh my goodness. It was incredible. And huge.

We spent literally all day walking around, pouring over each unique booth. It was awesome. And it's official, I must apply next year.

the food & beverages were also amazing! I am soooo not a carni food person (i know, i'm weird). i will trade fried pickles and funnel cakes ANY day for a good cup of coffee and pork tacos.

So that's exactly what I did.

after a lunch break we scoured the last half of the booths...this one was also one of my faves. sadly, i can't remember the name, but look at all of the unique lighting fixtures. helllooo, woodstump lamp. i think you are great.

adventures of the bobster

Hi everybody! Bob here. Mom let me take over for her while she's away. She said I could write about anything I wanted to, so I thought I would tell you about a great adventure I had this week.

One night, mom surprised me & talked me into taking a ride. Sometimes I get a little nervous riding in that big

thing on wheels, but once we get moving and she lets me put my head outside, oh man that's fun.

Mom, she's great. I thought getting to stick my head out the window was good, but it just got better and better. Once she let me out of the car, she led me into this big gated area with some big blue swirls in the air and a floor covered with this wet stuff. The best part though was that I saw SO many of my people there. You know, dogs. It was like, all the people brought their dogs to the same place at the same time and we got to do WHATEVER we wanted.

Mom of course, tried to get me to go into that wet stuff, but that was pretty silly of her. She knows I'm made for snow.

Mom also says I'm quite the ladies man.

Once my mom stopped trying to throw me into the wet stuff (I put up a good fight), I got to ~~prance~~ run around the big area, sniffing other dogs, marking my areas, picking on the little guys, making friends, oh and occasionally giving my mom a kiss.

It was awesome.

This is my sweet friend, Holly.

Last week, Holly flew all the way to Nowheresville to come see the Bobster, Ben & me!

Talk about love.

We fellow-shipped, laughed, prayed, walked, talked, laughed, encouraged each other & just lived life for a week together. It was such a great reminder to me of how precious friendships are.

Holly did a huge friendly favor for me & allowed me to use her luscious locks for headband modeling. I have always told her how I wished she could come be my hair model *what a dream come true*. And it's nice to see someone else's profile on my shop page every now & again, don't you agree? Yes, yes indeed.

Holly & I made some yummy food together, but we also treated ourselves to a few meals out, one of which was a burger joint which actually seems to have been made for me *gasp*. Everything is handmade, from the ketchup to the pickles & they have lots of yummy burger options, like Margherita Chicken, Avocado & Turkey, Salmon Burgers, the list goes on...They have beef burgers too, which I hear are tasty, but you know how I roll.

So much fun! And I guess this is where I would say, now back to the real world, but thankfully, I get to continue on this friendship spree & am going to see one of my best & oldest friends in CHICAGO this weekend!!

Mini Lime Cheesecakes

Cheesecake is one dessert I have a hard time passing up and when you add lemon or lime to the mixture, well, I'm all in. I like to make mini cheesecakes as opposed to a regular sized cheesecake because #1, portion control is my friend when it comes to these and #2, they take 15 minutes(ish) to bake, rather than 45. It makes for a quick & easy dessert option when I'm in a pinch!

To make your own delicious lime cheese-cupcakes...

You'll need:

1 package from one box of graham crackers, crumbled

3 TBSP butter

1 package of cream cheese, softened

1/3 cup powdered sugar (still looking for a good natural option to this--raw sugar does not work...trust me, I tried)

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

juice of one lime

1/4 tsp lime zest

And here's what you do:

Preheat oven to 325*

Combine graham crackers in a food processor until sufficiently crumbled (or crush them to death with your hands, whatever works)

Add 3 TBSP butter, melted & mix until evenly distributed. Place cupcake liners in cupcake tin & pat down 2 TBSP graham cracker mixture into each liner.

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth, add powdered sugar & mix well. Still beating, add in 1 egg, juice of lime, & vanilla until well blended. Stir in the zest. Distribute mixture into cupcake liners, until each is about 2/3 filled. Bake at 325* for approx. 18 minutes or until done. Cool completely, then chill for 2 hours. Finally, for good measure, garnish with whipped cream & zest of lime. Enjoy :)

Skirt Steak Tacos with Black Bean & Corn Salad

Ben claims this is one of the best meals he's ever eaten. I think it might have something to do with the fact that it's main ingredient is beef. But carnivorous desires aside, it was a really tasty dish (and quite pretty too!) so here I am to share it with you!

Ok, first things first: the steak. I bought a nice looking skirt steak & marinated it with lime juice and balsamic vinegar for 24 hours. A lot of recipes only say to marinade for an hour, but I think going the extra mile makes a big difference! When ready to cook, rub the steak on both sides with a mixture of 2 parts chipolte seasoning to 1 part cinnamon and 1 part cumin. Cook on a preheated grill pan or outdoor grill.

Once the steak is done, let it rest for a few minutes then cut into pieces against the grain.

Cucumber & Tomato Pico: Combine 1/2 cup quartered grape tomatoes, 1/4 cup diced cucumber, 1/2 diced jalapeno, 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, 1 minced garlic clove, juice of one lime & salt & pepper to taste. Very tasty! Especially for a girl like me who doesn't like onions in her pico!

Shred a few handfuls of red cabbage & set aside. It makes for a nice crunch in your taco!

For perfect corn tortillas, heat each over a gas flame like so. It makes them much less likely to fall apart and don't you hate when that happens?

Assemble tacos with steak, pico & cabbage.

Serve with Black Bean & Corn Salad:

Arugula, grape tomatoes, black beans, corn, feta cheese (chill salad before serving)

Serve with Cilantro-Lime Vinaigrette: 1/4 cup safflower oil, 1 juice of lime, 1 TBSP unfiltered apple cider vinegar, 1 garlic clove, minced, chopped cilantro, salt to taste.

Serve over salad & enjoy!

This is what I woke up to on my birthday...3 bouquets of beautiful flowers & 3 sweet notes that I found as I made my way down the stairs. See? He's the sweetest.

THEN, when I arrived downstairs, I found my husband doing this. He gets extra points for making breakfast healthy {blueberry buckwheat pancakes} they were also DELICIOUS!

After breakfast, coffee & presents, he took me out to the lake for a rainy picnic...a little rain won't spoil our day :)

A Fair is a Veritable Smorgasbord...

Charlotte's Web...Anybody?

No? Ok. Moving along.

Yesterday we braved the crazy heat & went to the fair with a group of our friends! I actually think it was my first STATE fair...quite a milestone for me. (wink*wink)

here's about half of our group...poor ben looks like the 5th wheel in this pic ;)

the goats were just a wee bit cuter & cleaner than the piggies & they smelled like goat cheese.

and, ok this is a random one, but what is more random than selling spas at a fair?? yet, they are ALWAYS at any fair I've ever been to! impulse buy? looks like this guy is about to get sucked in...

Clearly, we had a great time looking at soooo many different things that the fair brings together. Pigs, goats, carnie rides, spas, RVs, arts & crafts...you name it, it's there. Sadly, we did have to head out before the Jimmy John Sandwich eating contest & the pig races, but all in all it was a fun day spent with fun people :)

DIY Wednesday {Hardware}

Ok, so I'm not talking about lumber today, but I am talking about furniture hardware. That, I know a little bit more about! Changing out hardware on an outdated furniture piece can be a really easy & affordable fix for furniture that just doesn't quite fit your motif.

We have family heirloom sort of piece in our house right now that will eventually need to be stripped & repainted, but for the mean time (aka...I have no time to do that right now) a little hardware switcheroo should do the trick!

Here's what used to be on the piece:

And here's what we replaced it with:

Found these bad boys at Hobby Lobby, 50% off {of course!}--I love the rope & wire weaving & it goes perfectly with the rest of our decor!

Just making this small adjustment to the piece, really helped tie it in to the rest of our decor, or at least nudged it in that direction!

Next step is to decorate the top of it & the wall above it with objects & art that will bring it into cohesion even more with our home!

Moral of the story...don't like your furniture? Before you toss it and pay bookoos of money to replace it, change the knobs! You may find that the perfect furniture piece was sitting right under your nose...

Pizza Pick Me Up

The Hubs has been working really hard lately & although he knows I am so proud of him & all his hard work, I felt that this week called for a little extra pick me up. Being that all you really want to do after a long hard day at work is crash, I opted to keep it real at home, but planned some yummy dinners that I knew would make his heart happy. One of the sure ways to a man's heart is food. I am certain of it.

One of the faves during this week of fun hubby food, was Pizza.

I'm not gonna lie, that one was not just for him, I loooove me some good homemade pizza.

Look at this delicousness...sooo good.

Now that I have hopefully whetted your appetite, the recipe!

Dough (makes 2 large thin crusts)

1 1/3 cup warm water

1 tsp. honey

2 tsp. sea salt

2 tbsp. EVOO

2 cups unbleached flour

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 1/4 tsp. dry active yeast

Preheat oven to 425*F

Directions: (this is where I totally cheat & use the bread machine) BUT if you don't have a bread machine, you would first combine water, honey & yeast. Let sit about 5 minutes until bubbly. Combine flour & sea salt in a bowl, add yeast mixture & olive oil. Mix thoroughly & knead dough well. Cover with a damp cloth & let the dough sit in a warm place for about an hour. Punch dough down, separate into two balls & roll flat onto pizza sheets.

Before putting the dough in the oven, I like to spread it with a little bit of EVOO & sprinkle garlic powder & thyme or rosemary on it. Once the dough is seasoned, place in oven for 10 minutes.

Toppings:

Heirloom tomatoes (thinly sliced)

Mozzarella (very thinly sliced)

Basil

Remove dough from oven, arrange tomatoes & mozzarella on pizza & top with basil, fresh is best, but you can definitely use a generous amount of dried basil also.

Return Pizza to oven for 15 min or until cheese begins to brown a little.

& if you are like us & like a little spice, top with red pepper flakes & Enjoy!

And that's how we made life a little lovelier this week! :)

DIY Wednesday {Anniversary Edition}

The long & the short of it is this: we needed more lighting. During the day our house is great, the two large windows at either side of the room let in so much natural light that I don't ever have to switch on a lamp or overhead lighting. But at night, it's a different story--we can't seem to get enough light, even when we turn on all available lights & lamps.

We celebrated our anniversary a week ago & I expressed to Ben in that time how much I wanted a good overhead light source that would create ambient lighting in the room & also be cohesive with the decor we have going on. Being the sweet & resourceful husband that he is, he convinced me that we could make it ourselves!

We did our homework, bought the supplies & went to town. I already had an idea in my head of what I wanted & good thing we decided we could make it ourselves because I really haven't seen anything quite like what my little brain was imaging on the market. I have seen some similar things, but they are uber expensive...and well, you know how we roll when it comes to house stuff.

And here you have it: the final result & the BEST anniversary gift EVER!

Just an aside, our overhead lamp actually plugs into a wall outlet..thus you can see we have rope, braided with electrical cord that drapes down the ceiling & wall & plugs right into the wall. Logistically, it was something we had to do, but I actually think we improved upon our plan by making it corded---I LOVE the draping rope!

And that's what we made ourselves for our anniversary!

Nothing better than a little blood, sweat & tears to say I love you. (ok, there was no blood involved...nor tears. but sweat, yes.)

Low Fat Decadent Whole Wheat Chocolate Cake

While my family was here, I had to take them to one of my favorite places in town, a local flea market, where you can find me burrowing around most days of the week. It's addicting. I may or may not have gotten my neighbor hooked also so we may be calling for some intervention soon.

On to the real excitement, while scavenging, I came upon this really neat Lincoln Beautyware Cake Tin.

Awesome, right? And perfect for our kitchen which bleeds right into our living & dining room, so everything can be all matchy matchy & happy together.

Being that I found this lovely, I had to make cake. Right away.

My cake pictures are not that pretty, but trust me & the 4 other witnesses who ate it. It was delish.

Ben has already decided it will become his new birthday cake.

The best part? No butter or oil & you can't even tell!

Ok, so here goes it.

What you'll need:

1cup whole wheat flour

3/4 cup raw sugar

6 TBSP cocoa *unsweetened or dark chocolate

3/4 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/4 tsp. salt

3/4 cup water

1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

1 egg

1 cup frozen cool whip, thawed

4 oz reduced fat cream cheese

1/4 cup dark chocolate pieces

How to make:

Preheat oven to 350* Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

In a blender combine water, egg & blueberries. Add mixture to the flour mix. Whisk until combined. Pour into a greased 8x8x2 inch baking pan. Bake for 30 min. or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted. Mine took closer to 40 min. to be done, so just check often. Cool completely on a wire rack. Invert onto serving platter.

G some chocolate shavings for

Whip the softened cream cheese & cool whip in a bowl until smooth. Microwave chocolate chips at 50% for 30 seconds or until melted. Mix melted chips with whipped frosting & chill. Once cake is completely cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting.

Garnish with chocolate shavings for good measure. And if you're like my dad you'll want to toss a few chocolate chips on top. And done!

Super easy, extremely tasty & a much healthier alternative to the typical chocolate cake.

Oh & just for the fun of it, I found these bad boys on the same day I found my cake tin. Also, Lincoln Beautyware. It was a winning day for me at the thrift store (and in the kitchen).

But when it's 100+ degrees outside, you can throw all that out the window because, cold & delicious ice cream trumps even the best of them.

So you can venture to guess, on our first outing we skipped over all the tourist sights & eateries & just went straight to dessert...gourmet ice cream.

I'm not a super-fan of ice cream in general, but this gourmet ice cream shop was well worth the trip. I ventured out of my comfort zone & paired Goat Cheese & Wildflower Honey ice cream with Raspberry sorbet and it was WON.DER.FUL.

A few days before my family flew out, I found out that my 85 year old grandmother would be able to join us for the trip! Such a sweet surprise & blessing. Isn't she just beautiful?

After we fueled up with ice cream, we did in fact go to one of the museums...I promise we did actually tour it. Although, I'm not sure if my family is the best at museum-ing. We may have renamed a few pieces of art with names like "Buffalo Turds", and of course there is the adolescent giggling that we just couldn't seem to contain. No wonder I have no recollection of touring museums as a kid...

Here are a couple of our more tame moments, captured:

We eventually did get to the barbecue, and ate at one of the best: Jack Stack's. What made this outing even sweeter was getting to meet up with dear friends. Stellar company + great barbecue made for one fantastic evening.

We also made our way to Oklahoma Joe's, visited some Amish farms, went biking & walking with the Bobster ! Like true family, they even endured a trip to a vegan restaurant just to indulge me. True love, I tell ya.

And, what I'm sure was their favorite moment: they got to meet their grand dog, Bob. Bob loved all his new family members, but had a particularly special affection for Mom'O. He barely left her side the entire trip & loooved to nuzzle up against her like I've never seen him do before. There was definitely a special little bond formed there. :)

DIY Wednesday {Bathroom Re-do}

Hello hello. DIY {Do It Yourself} Wednesday has been on a little hiatus, but I am excited to be back with a fun little post on how we re-did our challenging little bathroom.

A note or two before I start with the pictures...

Ben & I do not own this house, so we were pretty limited in the types of "improvements" we could make.

This bathroom functions not only as our master bath, but also as the upstairs guest bath.

Ok, so you can see from these two little notes that we definitely had our challenges with this bathroom. One look at this first picture & you will see that we were definitely working with a very small space that needed to have the functionality to work not only as a master bath, but also as a guest bath when we have visitors. And being that the house is not our own, we were pretty limited in what we could do to it.

So with that out of the way, now onto the fun! Unfortunately my "before" pictures got deleted somehow, but just imagine the bathroom being shelf-less & all our toiletries scattered about the little sink area. It was bathroom mayhem.

Our obvious necessity was some sort of shelving. We didn't want to go with the typical over the toilet shelf system...we were hoping to find something unique that brought some sleek wooden accents to the room. We also needed shelving that would "hide" our things. I looove the way magazines make open shelving look in a bathroom, but let's be real...whose toiletries really look that chic & tidy?

In only one day of looking we were thankfully able to score some really sweet wooden boxes from {my favorite} Hobby Lobby! {60% off at that!} They were exactly what we were looking for!

Modern, with a rustic edge & with closing cabinetry for hiding all our things! We decided to buy four & make a little shelving system of our own out of them.

A closer look...These did not have any sort of wall mounts on the back so we ended up screwing them into the wall with our drill, one screw in each corner to ensure that they would hold ample weight.

We then found some great bamboo accessories {courtesy of CB2} including: soap pump, toothbrush holder, trash bin & floor mat. Yes the floor mat is wooden & I love it.

See the awesome bath mat?? Now if only we could paint & re-tile...then it would really be spectacular. :)

Most importantly though, it is now FULLY functional, de-cluttered & spacious enough for both us & our guests to use. YAY!

I know it's Monday, but today I am taking the day off! Well, except for the morning dentist appointment I had, but I actually enjoy the dentist so it's kind of like an event to me :)

Yesterday was my final craft show of the spring/summer season & since I worked my tail off all week & weekend long...today is my holiday.

Strawberry Swing was a first year craft show in the Kansas City area that I was SO thrilled to be a part of! And for a first year show, I really do think it was quite the hit!

The fair took place in the Alexander Major's barn, a really cool historic site right in the city!

my booth was in the barn which means thankfully, I had plenty of A/C!

the set up. It changed only slightly this time...with purses hanging from rope rather than from my screen door.

with Ben unable to come with me, I needed a light weight solution for hanging my bags...I think it turned out very cute!

Ok, so the best part of the fair was having one of my bestest friends in the whole wide world & her family SURPRISE me at the fair! I haven't seen them in 6 months & they just moved to the area (yaaay!!!) I was so thrilled to have them there & to have them keep me company for awhile. This is she, with me & along with her she brought her fantastic husband (also a great friend, who brought me coffee!) and her sweet son & mother!

Definitely the highlight of my day!

The show was definitely worth it & was a nice successful ending to my first summer season of craft shows. I have a few months to re-cooperate before the fall/winter ones begin! One new thing for me at this show was my ability to take credit card payments! It definitely helped bring in at least 1/3 of my sales...totally worth it.

I used Square, which can be hooked up to an iPhone, Android or iPad & transacted payments with one easy swipe!

Loved it!

That's all for now...I was planning to list some new wristlets today, but I think that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Little Treasures

It's always a comfort, when getting settled into a new place, to find a nook or two that you enjoy about the new area, whether its a park, a shop, a bench or a cafe..there's just something sweet about finding a spot that you love & can relate to.

I finally feel like we have found one or two little treasures in the area that we look forward to & that remind us of comforts we have enjoyed in the past. It's such a simple thing, but I can't explain how nice it is to find something you love when you are new in town.

One of my spots is this great little cafe that cooks with farm fresh & gourmet ingredient with a rich & eclectic style. Love it.

And the other, we found yesterday. A cute little book store, full of old & new books for fantastic prices! Truth be told, it was a bit of a drive to get there, but I think it's safe to say we will be up for the drive ;) We decided recently that we wanted to up our collection of old books...not just for decor purposes, but for their reading pleasure as well. With all the e-readers & such out there now, books are becoming quite a treasure & we would like to start a collection of classic hardback books that one day our kids can enjoy.

And here's our prize for the day: The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan.

Ben & I both read this when we were children, although I'm pretty sure it must have been an abridged version, so I am super excited that this is the real deal. And not to mention the book cover is awesome. Our future kids are going to be so cool when they read this.

4th Festivities

In true Carter form (at least these days) we celebrated the Fourth on the First. Ben worked yesterday and all weekend long, so the First really was the only feasible day for us to celebrate anyway.

Good thing there was a firework show that day & some fun parties going on, otherwise we would have been popping cracklers & lighting roman candles in our backyard & lookin' a fool, like we got our dates confused!

Our neighbors cooked up delicious kabobs & burgers which we gladly indulged ourselves in.

We swatted flies left and right while they swarmed our food. Literally swarmed. It's ridiculous how many flies we have in the midwest.

Aren't these the cutest patriotic cupcakes?? We totally mooched off neighbor food all night long. And it was great.

Fireworks. This just happens to be my one decent shot out of 20. Whoever came up with the firework setting on cameras is crazy-that thing does not work. It turns a perfectly good firework into a laser light show if you ask me.

An Upcycled Recycling Station

This has been our project for a few weeks now...what to use to make recycling bins that are tote-able, roomy & also unique looking. Oh yea, & we didn't want to drop a lot of cash on the project. Big surprise there ;)

Somewhere in our brainstorming we had the idea to use burlap coffee bags, which we get at our local coffee shop, and have used before for projects like this one.

Fun looking, cheap, large & roomy for putting lots of recyclables in them, and cheap.

Our only dilemma was, how are we going to hang these things?? We had some manila rope left over from craft show displays & decided to use it to make these guys tote-able & also to serve as a way to hang them on the garage wall.

It's hard to see in the picture, but I basically cut a small hole in each side of the bag, ran rope through it, tied the rope off into a knot at each end & then sewed the area up around the knot to make sure the burlap didn't start to unravel where I had cut it.

And done. 3 super cool upcycled recycling bags. One for Paper, Plastic & Cardboard.

For some reason they don't believe in recycling glass around here.

A Carter Weekend

As some of you know, Ben's mom & brother came to visit us last weekend. It was such a blessing to have family come visit us in our new home. The weekend can pretty much be summed up in three words:

Lighthearted. Relaxing. Coffee.

Ok, a lot of delicious food was involved too, so maybe I can't sum it up so easily, but the combination of all these things for a very memorable visit :)

Ben & I are trying to find a crafty & neat looking solution for storing recyclables. I take them about once a week to the bins in the neighborhood, but need some kind of portable storage solution for organizing them until my drop off day.

Any thoughts??

I think my favorites from this group are the modern looking outdoor ones (not so portable though) and the ones hanging on pegboard...that would be a nice garage solution!

Impromptu Family Pics

Ben & I had a GREAT time with his family this weekend {more on that later}. As it was one of the few times when we actually looked semi-coordinated AND had someone around to even take a picture, we couldn't pass up the opportunity. I think the last time we actually took posed pictures together was for our engagement over THREE years ago! yeesh.

Thai Chicken Tacos

Ben & I have been enjoying this fresh & delicious summer recipe for the past couple of nights. Its SO yummy, quick, easy & healthful too :) Enjoy!

Thai Chicken Tacos

1 lb chicken breast (thinly sliced)

1/4 cup rice vinegar

1/4 cup cilantro, shredded

1- 2 cup napa cabbage, shredded

1-2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup carrots, shredded

1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds

1 TBSP asian chili sauce

1 TBSP lower sodium soy sauce

1 tsp crushed red pepper

12 corn tortillas

Preheat grill or grill pan. Grill chicken for 5-7 minutes on each side or until done. Let cool & shred.

Meanwhile, shred cabbage, cilantro & carrots & toss in a med. sized bowl. In a small bowl combine vinegar, garlic, sesame, chili sauce, soy sauce & red pepper. Mix well. Drizzle over cabbage mixture & toss well.

Heat corn tortillas over gas stove or grill (or in microwave according to pkg directions). Assemble tacos with shredded chicken & cabbage mixture. Serve with Jasmine Rice.

Hope you are having a fantastic Friday! Mine has been off to a nice start: sewing, coffee w/ friends, shipping off orders, more coffee w/ friends, and HOPEFULLY I'll get some time with my hubsy later today! Oh & I know Bob is hoping for a walk today. Unfortunately, the summer heat has hit so he has to wait until it cools off a bit in the evening for his adventures.

Today I am in a traveling sort of mood---maybe it's time for a vacation? So I thought I'd share some MAP LOVE with you via my Pinterest! I am thinking of incorporating some of these ideas in our home as Ben & I both love world geography, old maps & tend to do a lot of traveling around the country w/ the good ol' military.

DIY Wednesday on a Thursday {Craft Show Display}

If you remember from a few posts back, I recently had another craft show where I needed a simple, affordable & CUTE solution for hanging purses. Oh yes, and it needed to fit in my Camry.

I have always loved those chicken wire framed jewelry holders, but have never owned enough jewelry to make it worth my while to have one. But I do have a lot of handbags & as I was dreaming up display ideas, the thought of making a GIANT chicken wire framed {handbag} holder made me super excited. I drew up some ~~terrible~~ visually striking blueprints for the display, with two framed chicken wire panels hinged to each other. Thankfully I have a husband who is willing to look past my poor architectural/engineering skills & who is able to make my plans become reality.

So here is a peak into how we he did it.

First, we built two large frames from 2x4s. The height and width requirements were determined from the largest possible height and width that would fit into my car. So I think it ended up being 6' tall x 3.5' wide.

Once the frames were made & painted, we unrolled our chicken wire & used a staple gun to secure it to the back of each frame.

The frame on the left is turned right side up, with the chicken wire already secured to the backside & the frame on the right is waiting to be stapled.

Once the chicken wire was stapled to each frame, we used wire cutters to cut of the excess.

We hinged the frames at two places & were able to fold it up and load it into the car with care. The hinging also provided stability, so that the frames could stand up on their own beside my table. I used simple S-hooks & clothespins to hang my purses from the chicken wire.

Overall we were really pleased with the affordability & ease of this project. It was done in basically one day & I think the most expensive thing we had to buy was the staple gun, but that will be used for many projects down the road. I want to say that the 2x4s were about $3 a piece & the chicken wire came out to about $6. I bought sample paint from lowes for another $3 and the S-hooks were about $2 per package.

It was much cheaper than buying an actual purse display rack {and much cuter, if you ask me}. And cuteness goes a LONG way in craft show displays. People are really drawn to a booth by not only the products, but by how they are displayed. Your display will either add to or take away from the products you are showcasing, so here's to cute & simple displays!

Ben & I spent the weekend with this sweet fellow military family! Joe, Kate & Lucy.

We had a fantastic time catching up with old friends & introducing Bob & Lucy to each other. I think Bob thought Lucy was a play toy though, so maybe that friendship didn't work out so well...

We had a great time eating, talking, playing games & we even took a 20 mile bike ride on the Katy Trail- it was beautiful and a good challenge! WARNING: 20 miles will definitely leave you with a sore bum the next day. I think I will be spending Memorial Day relaxing these sore muscles :)

Craft Show No. 2

This weekend I had my second craft show & have been dying to show you guys some pictures from the event!

I changed my set-up a bit from the last one, which I'm sure will always happen as no booth space is quite the same.

New display items: the turquoise & lace looking table cloth was a new addition. I think it went really well with my products too!

I also added one more old soda bottle box (love those!) and was able to put more rosette clips in it's little cubbies. When I'm not using these for a craft show, they make great cubbies for keeping thread :)

Lastly, Ben & I (ok, really mostly Ben) worked all week on a new display for my purses. That has definitely been the most challenging part of setting up a craft show display. They need space to hang & can't overlap each other too much--and it doesn't really work to just set them up on a table. SO last week I came up with an idea, poorly drew it out & asked Ben if he could make it happen. And he did! He made it even better than I had hoped, that's just how he rolls ;)

So enjoy a few pics of my display & do admire the lovely frame the handbags are hanging on :) I feel a DIY coming tomorrow (wink*wink*)

show you some pictures of the beautiful budding rose bushes we have outside of our house & I was even going to give you a sneak peak into the bathroom re-do we have been working on this week...

BUT

my pictures have deleted themselves :( I don't know what just happened but as I was starting to edit them, they just disappeared. It's like Picasa was conspiring against me & blogging.

SO instead this is going to be a little impromptu...except for the fact that I can still edit & mull over what I write before I publish it. Otherwise, definitely impromptu.

Have you seen the new wristlets we have up in the shop?? They are pretty darn cute. AND they are make from 100% organic cotton & linen. We also have these same fabrics up in the fabric shop. We have officially gone green, and you should too. So definitely check them out.

Alsoooo some exciting changes are coming to the blog soon!! Remember how the shops got a little facelift a while back? Well the blog was getting jealous & so I decided to give it a little TLC too & make everything all matchy-matchy. More to come on that soon, but for now just know that it's gonna be cute.

I've got another craft show this weekend so on top of all the bathroom re-doing, soccer playing & swag-week swapping I have been hunched over the good ol' sewing machine a lot this week.
